New Years Eve in London: Part One

Logan read that London is one of the top 5 cities to be in on New Years Eve so soon after my arrival we planned our first trip to London.  Someone gave me this awesome book by Lonely Planet about traveling around Great Britain so I used it as a reference for where to go and what to see. We left early in the morning for Cambridge to catch our first train ride ever! I have always wanted to ride a train so we were both excited about this experience. It was exciting at first but really it was just like riding a fast moving car.. so I, of course, fell asleep.

We arrived at King's Cross in London. The first thing we saw after getting off the train was "Platform 9 3/4" from Harry Potter. I was so excited! We didn't stand in the long line of people waiting to take a picture with the buggy but I did take some pictures from the side.

Stepping outside of King's Cross we had no idea where to go. There were huge buildings and people everywhere so we just walked. We went a little ways before deciding to pull out our book and map to see where we wanted to be. We then caught "the tube" - the subway- to Piccadilly.

From Piccadilly we walked a little ways and through a park. We saw a line of men on horses. We had no idea what they were for but they were right outside of Buckingham Palace. The palace was smaller than Logan and I expected but still neat to see. We wanted to be there to catch The Changing of the Guard which supposedly happens every day at 11:30 but they ended up not doing it that day. It was chilly and rainy so the guards who you expect to see red uniforms on had grey rain jackets over them. I took lots of pictures and Logan really enjoyed watching them march. We hope to go again and see The Changing of the Guard and their red uniforms.

Our trip was long and included many pictures so I am splitting it up into a couple different posts. The next one will be here soon!
